The first round of American Idol’s Hollywood cuts are over, Group Night has come to a close and on Thursday’s episode it was up to all of them to deliver solo performances for the new judging panel. ... some time after all this Hollywood business is over, that is. But first, the solo singing.

Survivor: Redemption Island Premieres with Twists, Idols and Villains

Survivor: Redemption Island began with 16 contestants on a helicopter. Each new face hides a different personality, only a few of which began to emerge by the end of the season premiere. The new cast was dropped on the Nicaraguan beach, where show host Jeff Probst waited to greet them.
There was no lengthy sorting procedure -- each already knew to which tribe they belonged. Just as they formed their groups, Probst introduced a surprise in the form of two additional contestants. The helicopter arrived to deposit two of the show’s most well-known villains, “Boston Rob” Mariano and Russell Hanz, on the beach. They drew buffs to find which team they would lead. Russell ended up with the Zapatera group, receiving several groans. Rob was received with squeals and smiles by the Ometepe tribe.

American Idol 10: Group Night
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Video,
American Idol sent more than 150 Hollywood Week contestants home last week -- but it was only a preview. Group night has always been exceptionally intense on contestants. Would this year’s extremely packed Hollywood crowd bring even more drama than usual?
Wasn’t that the plan all along?
After two days in Hollywood, 168 were still in the competition. With a single night to prepare, contestants had to find a group and learn a song before performing before the judges the following day. And if that wasn't enough, the contestants were about to have all their carefully-made plans completely wrecked.

Jeopardy Exhibition Ends, Ken Jennings Welcomes New Overlord

In this week’s three-day exhibition, Jeopardy pit two of its finest minds -- champions Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter -- against the newest artificial mind designed by IBM. The supercomputer Watson took on the two champs in a two-game session that left the human contestants battling for a moment just to buzz in as each question was fired out by Alex Trebek.
At the end of the two-game, three-day session, Watson dominated. The computer scored a sum of $77,147 (the total comes from Watson’s odd penchant for betting off dollar amounts in Double and Final Jeopardy rounds), with Jennings scoring $24,000 and Rutter $21,600 at the end of two Final Jeopardy rounds. For his Final Jeopardy answer (which he got correct), Jennings added a personal message: “I for one welcome our new computer overlords.”

Glee: Coming Back with Divas and Biebers
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Music, Prime Time, FOX, Features, Video,
Tuesday’s Glee was appropriately titled “Comeback,” hinting that characters are moving on from last week’s heartaches. The episode started off on a strong note, with Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) ready to take on the world. As he put it, “Glee club’s going to Regionals, we’ve got all of Sue’s Cheerios money. I’m past Terri. I’m over Emma.”
And that’s when Emma (Jayma Mays) rushed into the classroom, right on cue and cute as ever. She ran to Will in an effort to save Cheerios coach Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch), who tried to OD on gummy vitamins. Will wasn’t having it, however, and he stalked out of Sue’s trophy-covered home. Sue eventually convinced Emma that she is truly in a deep depression following her loss at the national cheerleading competition, and in this way managed to infiltrate New Directions as a member of the club.

Roseanne Barr is going to back on TV thanks to Lifetime.
The cable channel is doing a Roseanne-centric reality series based on the comedienne’s efforts to run a macadamia nut farm. And we’re not making any of that up.
The 40-acre farm is located on Hawaii’s Big Island. Roseanne will be working with her boyfriend Johnny Argent and her son Jake in a “take-no-prisoners approach in shaping a Utopian dream for herself and her loved ones.”
And their dream, we guess, is to run a nut farm. To each their own.

Man vs. Machine: Jeopardy-Style
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Games, Reality, Specials, Syndication, Video,
IBM is taking computer gaming to an epic level.
Monday marked the debut of the supercomputer Watson, a machine so smart it’s capable of playing a game of Jeopardy . . . and maybe, winning it. The three-day game pits the computer against the show’s two greatest champions, Brad Rutter and Ken Jennings, and at the end of Round 1 Watson is tied for first place.
Watson ruled categories like “Beatles People” and “Literary Characters APB,” though it struggled and offered wrong answers to other categories, including “Name the Decade.”
Still, the computer’s prowess was such that at the end of the episode, it’s tied with Rutter with $5,000 in the Jeopardy game bank . . . and champion Ken Jennings trails behind the machine with only $2,000 in the till. Check out the video above to get a look at Watson in action.

American Idol 10: Hollywood, Round 1

Ryan Seacrest promised that this year’s Hollywood Week will be twice as hard . . . because this year, American Idol has double the usual amount of contestants. It felt more like triple the amount through the long audition rounds, but it’s finally time to start whittling them down.
Maybe the new panel will begin to develop its killer instinct as the week progresses.
